A John
McKenzie Film ‘the WEDDING JOB’
Samantha is 90 minutes away from her wedding, submerged in the contained hysteria of pre-marriage family presentations. Her mother (Julia McKenzie) is a control freak, her older sister (Lisa Coleman), a cynical dropout, and younger sister Allison, innocent and trusting. The browbeaten father buzzes about ineffectively, as the make-up girl, photographer and videographer descend upon the house to add to the pandemonium.
Meanwhile, over the garden wall drop three armed gangsters: Pete (Dennis Waterman), the bullet-wounded Smokes, and Dave, on the run with £200,000; the police are not far behind. The gang force the videographer to hide their stash in his camera case, and pose as assistants to gain refuge in the house until the heat dies down.
In the general chaos of the house, the ‘video assistants’ are accepted without suspicion, but their position becomes ever more complicated as they are sucked into the family tensions bubbling to the surface.
THE WEDDING JOB is a sharp, inventive, fast-talking, and very original comedy, featuring fresh and natural performances from an excellent cast.
