A few words about the Lowe Syndrome Trust

You may have not heard of Lowe Syndrome- this is because it is a very rare genetic disorder, affecting only boys. Lowe Syndrome occurs because of mutations on the OCRL1 gene, and gives rise to a number of physical and mental handicaps including cataracts in both eyes appearing as early as during birth, muscle weakness (hypotonia or floppy baby syndrome), kidney problems, cysts, brittle bones, arthritis, poor growth, mental impairment with behavior problems (autistic spectrum disorder) and epilepsy.

As you can see Lowe Syndrome is a very serious disorder and a cure is long overdue. This is where the Lowe Syndrome Trust comes in. Formed in June 200 by parents of a Lowe syndrome child, this UK based charity is dedicated to raising much needed funds for medical research. Hundreds of thousands of pounds have already been raised and much cutting edge, pivotal research has already been funded- however a cure is yet to be found.

This is your opportunity to help contribute to an amazing cause as well as groundbreaking scientific research! Just take a look at the items up for bid in our Valentine's auction, and if you see something you like then place a bid by email! All funds raised will go to funding much needed research and who knows, you might just snag that perfect Valentine's gift you were looking for. Happy bidding!
